Traveling south on Route 235 towards Hollywood, turn on to Route 245 East (Sotterly Gate Road).  Travel 2.5 miles and make a right on to Steerhorn Neck Road.  The park entrance is the second drive on the left (approximately 8/10th of a mile).

Public or Private : Operated and maintained jointly by the Greenwell Foundation and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Special Interests (museum, fishing pier, swimming pool, etc.)  Greenwell is a 596-acre State Park located on the Patuxent River in St. Mary’s county, Maryland.  In 1971, John Phillip Greenwell, Jr. and his sister Mary Wallace Greenwell, donated their 166.6 acre farm to the state of Maryland for use as a public park for everyone.  The state subsequently purchased the adjacent 430 acre Bond property and joined the two to form the existing park.  The park is managed in partnership with the Greenwell Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing outdoor accessible reaction.

Hiking/Horseback riding – Ten miles of marked trails are open to the public year round.

Fishing – Visitors may fish from the pier or from the revetment year round.  A sportsfishing license is required for persons 16 years and older.

Picnicking – Visitors are invited to picnic on the grounds.  Please remember that we are trash free.  Take only memories, and leave only footprints.  Pavilion can be reserved by calling the Greenwell Foundation at 301-373-9775.

Hunting – Hunting is permitted during established seasons.  Contact the park for further details.

Swimming – Swimming is permitted from the beach area only.  Be advised that there is no lifeguard on duty, swimming is at your own risk.

Fees : Non to launch.  The park has an honor system with service charges ($3 per vehicle) benefitting the Greenwell Foundation to help operate the park.
